International Cricket Council has released fixtures and official logo of World Twenty20 2012 to be hosted by Sri Lanka in September 2012. The symbol in the logo represents Sri Lankan culture and Sinhala language. As per ICC schedule, inaugural match of World Twenty20 2012 will be played between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe on September 18, 2012. Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium of Hambantota will host the inaugural match of ICC T20 World Cup 2012. ICC World Twenty20 2012 Qualifiers were played in early 2012 which decided the teams entering into ICC World Twenty20 event to be hosted by Sri Lanka in September 2012. The Qualifiers round will be expanded version from the previous, will comprise 16 teams of which 6 would be with ODI status countries while remaining 10 teams will be chosen from regional Twenty20 tournaments. The six Associates of ICC with ODI status Afghanistan, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, Netherlands and Scotland are already qualified for this event. ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers 2012 will be hosted by UAE. R. Premadasa stadium of Colombo will host final of ICC World Twenty20 2012 according to reports. The current capacity of R. Premadasa stadium is around 35,000; up from its earlier capacity of just 14,000. R. Premadasa stadium of Sri Lanka has earlier hosted several important matches of ICC events including quarter final & semi final in both 1996 & 2011 ICC World Cup. In the semi final, Sri Lanka beat the New Zealand by 5 wickets. As per ICC, World Twenty20 Cup will be organized every two years by one of the full time member of ICC. World Twenty20To promote Twenty20 cricket, ICC decided to have Twenty20 World Cup every two years instead of four years as with ICC Cricket World Cup. The inaugural ICC World Twenty20 was hosted by South Africa, where India emerged as victorious beating Pakistan by 5 runs in a dramatic final. In the second edition, Pakistan beat the England by 8 wickets in the final, taking away Champions title from India, who beat them in the inaugural edition of World Twenty20. In the last Twenty20 World Cup in 2010 organized by West Indies, England beat the mighty Australians by 7 wickets to claim World Twenty20 Champions title.
